With generous funding from the Crick Institute, we have started our first of two courses with young people at the Somers Town Youth Centre. The lovely centre is based in the heart of Somers Town and brings together young people from the area. We have been enjoying the luxury of cooking in their spacious kitchen with a large group of 16 year olds. Meeting weekly on a Monday night, together with David our new session leader, they are cooking delicious food which they are then eating together in the garden.Coming to cook with the group on their second session I could tell that they were quite an able, enthusiastic group. Together we cooked a vegetarian shepherd’s pie and a delicious crumble. When sitting outside to eat I asked them which foods they would like to learn how to cook. Risotto was mentioned as was cooking with Hallumi. A sophisticated bunch indeed… The sessions will count towards the skills part of their Duke of Edinburgh award.
