Last week saw Eat Club partner with Hubbub and School Food Matters to deliver five sessions in five schools in West London. These sessions were definitely not what Eat Club would normally do in terms of the target age group and length of session. We worked with primary school kids (ages ranging from 7 to 11) for one hour sessions. Being that young the kids were all super enthusiastic, but what can you achieve in just one hour?
There were several targets to the sessions, mainly learning about food waste and making pancakes. For that purpose, we were dragging along a trolley full of fruit and veg waste that was used to create the toppings for the pancakes and featured in the ‘identify the food waste’ game the kids got to play.
All kids got to learn how to make and flip pancakes. That was great fun. And despite our best efforts, sugar was the still the favourite pancake topping even though some mushy bananas, apples, pineapple and strawberries featured as well. We hope that at least some mums will benefit from these sessions come Mother’s Day in a couple of weeks!
